Sho Moteuchi (Shuhei Nomura) é um estudante do ensino médio. Depois que seus pais se divorciaram, ele passa a viver na casa do tio dele. Na escola, ele desenvolve sentimentos por sua colega de classe Nanami, mas Nanami gosta do amigo dele, Tomoaki. 

Um dia, ele encontra um velho aparelho de videocassete quebrado na casa de seu tio. Sho conserta o aparelho e, de repente, um vídeo de uma garota começa a rodar. A menina no vídeo se apresenta como Video Girl Ai. A garota então sai do vídeo e vive com Sho pelos próximos 3 meses.

Esta série atual de 2018 se passa 25 anos depois do mangá original que inclusive foi lançado no Brasil. Como dado interessante, a Video Girl Ai é interpretada por Nanase Nishino, membro do girl group japonês Nogizaka46.

Um projeto paralelo interessante que conta com a participação da linda Ai Amano é a série  Oh My Jump!, que foi lançada completa pelo projeto DrSlumpBrasil.
